- Apple is preparing a new iOS 27 feature called iPhone Handoff that will allow two iPhones to use the same phone number and cellular plan.

The feature will use a main iPhone with the primary eSIM and a second companion iPhone with an associated companion eSIM. Cellular settings will be managed from the main iPhone, while location sharing will switch to the device currently using the phone number.
Unlike existing Apple Continuity features that rely on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, iPhone Handoff is designed to work at the cellular network and eSIM level. This means the companion iPhone can continue operating with the same phone number even when the main iPhone is switched off.
The feature is expected to require mobile network operator support.
iPhone Handoff was first mentioned during WWDC 2026 and has appeared in iOS 27 beta 8. It could make it easier for users who regularly switch between two iPhones without manually transferring their SIM or eSIM.
