- Disney has released its redesigned Disney+ app in Malaysia, adding Disney and Hulu sections as well as ESPN sports content, but subscribers will lose their profiles, watchlists and viewing history when they move to the new version.

The updated app is available now on the Apple App Store and Google Play. Disney announced last month that the switch would take place on 7 October 2026, and Malaysian subscribers are now being moved across to the new experience at no extra cost. Users log in with their existing registered phone number or email address. The new app is listed separately on the app stores, so subscribers must download it rather than wait for an automatic update of the old one.
The rollout ends the Hotstar-based app that served Malaysia since the service launched locally as Disney+ Hotstar in 2021. Disney dropped the Hotstar name in Malaysia on 9 October 2025 and renamed the Star hub as Hulu at the same time. Malaysia is one of several Southeast Asian markets, alongside Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines, migrating to Disney’s unified global app as the company retires older regional versions across Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
The new interface separates content into dedicated Disney and Hulu sections, with further tabs for movies, TV series and platform-exclusive shows. It also adds a sports section carrying ESPN content for the first time on the service in Malaysia. Disney said in April that ESPN programming on Disney+ includes live events, studio shows and the 30 for 30 documentary collection, and that the line-up varies by market and will grow to thousands of live events, including NBA and NHL coverage from the 2026-27 season.
Subscription prices stay unchanged for now. The Disney+ Standard plan remains RM29.90 per month or RM214.90 per year, while the Premium plan costs RM289.90 per year. The figures follow a broader price adjustment in December 2025, when the entry plan rose to RM29.90 per month and Premium to RM49.90 per month.
The main trade-off for existing subscribers is the loss of saved data. Disney says existing profiles, watchlists and viewing history will not transfer to the new app, and users will need to create a new profile from scratch. Personalised recommendations will rebuild only as subscribers watch content in the new version, so anyone returning to a half-finished series should note it down before switching.
