- OpenAI has started rolling out GPT-6 in ChatGPT together with Intelligent UI, a new capability that lets the chatbot answer questions with fully interactive user interfaces instead of plain paragraphs of text.

The rollout began on 7 October 2026 for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users in the Chat tab. Free and Go users follow from 8 October. Enterprise availability depends on workplace admin settings. OpenAI said GPT-6 now reaches the more than 1.2 billion people who use ChatGPT every week.
According to OpenAI, GPT-6 is trained to compose answers using text, visuals and interactive elements, and decides how to arrange them based on the question. Responses can include graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts, diagrams and interactive experiences that can be used directly inside the conversation.
The company’s sample comparisons between GPT-5.6 and GPT-6 show what this means in practice. A recipe answer becomes an interactive widget that adjusts ingredient quantities based on the number of guests. Other examples include checklists, integrated maps and multiple-choice follow-up questions that narrow down results. ChatGPT can also build a working tool on the spot, such as a bill splitter, a calculator or a simple game.
GPT-6 also responds faster. The model can start answering while it is still reasoning, adding information as it goes instead of waiting for the full answer. OpenAI reported that GPT-6 Instant begins answering questions that require web search 44 percent sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant. That figure measures when an answer starts, not when it completes.
Technically, OpenAI said it built Intelligent UI with a library of native, streamable components and a compiler that processes the interface while the model generates it. This lets the interface appear progressively and keeps the experience consistent across web and mobile.
The model you get depends on your plan. OpenAI said ChatGPT’s Chat tab is powered by GPT-6 Sol for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise tiers, and GPT-6 Luna for Free and Go tiers. Both are tuned for everyday conversation. Some users have questioned why ChatGPT received GPT-6 Sol rather than the newer GPT-6.1 Sol, which is listed among OpenAI’s latest models. OpenAI has not explained the choice.
This week’s release is the second stage of a wider rollout. OpenAI introduced GPT-6 Sol and Luna on 22 September in its API, ChatGPT Work and Codex, describing them as models that build on the flagship GPT-6 Astra at lower cost. The company cut API prices for Sol and Luna by 50 percent compared with GPT-5.6 promotional pricing. The versions released this week are new October builds that replace GPT-5.6 Sol and Luna in ChatGPT’s chat experience, while the September versions remain in use in Codex and Work.
GPT-6 is limited to the Chat tab for now. The models powering Work and Codex are not changing as part of this release.
OpenAI published a system card alongside the rollout. It said the October models incorporate Astra’s safety advances and strengthen protections against high-risk misuse in cyber, biology and violence. The company reported one regression on an extremism image evaluation and said the unsafe responses it reviewed were generally low in severity.
Several questions remain open. OpenAI has not confirmed whether Intelligent UI is available through its API, whether the tools a user generates persist between chats, or how the richer responses affect usage limits.
For users in Malaysia, the update reaches the same Chat tabs and tiers as the global rollout. ChatGPT users on Free and Go plans in Malaysia have also seen advertisements since late September, when OpenAI expanded its ads programme to Malaysia and other Southeast Asian markets. The company said ads appear only on Free and Go plans, while Plus, Pro and Enterprise subscriptions remain ad-free.
