  • OPPO has confirmed that ColorOS 17, its update based on Android 17, will begin reaching Malaysian and global phones on 29 October, with the rollout stretching into the first quarter of 2027.

Malaysian users of recent flagships can already get an early look. OPPO opened its ColorOS 17 Open Beta on 11 October, with registration available to users in Malaysia, India and Indonesia for the Find X9 Ultra, Find X9 Pro, Find X9, Find X9s, Find X8 Pro and Find X8.

The stable rollout starts on 29 October for the Find N6 foldable, Find X9 Ultra, Find X9s, Find X9 Pro and Find X9. On 30 October, the update extends to the Find N5, Find X8 Pro, Find X8 and the Reno16 series sold in Malaysia, covering the Reno16 Pro, Reno16, Reno16c, Reno16 F and Reno16 FS.

From November, OPPO will focus on the Reno15 and Reno14 series, then expand the update to F and K series phones and a number of OPPO tablets, including the Pad 5. The full process is expected to run through January, February and March 2027. OPPO has said the dates mark the start of each phase, so updates will arrive in batches and may not reach every device on the same day, with timing varying by region and carrier.

The software first shipped in China alongside the Find X10 Pro Max series. It travels to global markets with the Find X10 and Find X10 Pro Max, which launch worldwide on 21 October in Mallorca, Spain, and in Malaysia the following day, 22 October at 18:00 MYT, according to OPPO Malaysia’s launch listing.

ColorOS 17 continues OPPO’s focus on interface smoothness. Where ColorOS 15 introduced Parallel Animation and ColorOS 16 added Seamless Animation, this version debuts Living Flow Design, a translucent visual style in which interactive elements compress, stretch or bounce when touched.

The main technical change is the new Unified Rendering Architecture, which consolidates rendering tasks. OPPO says this cuts rendering load by 25% and RAM usage by 30%. The upgraded Laminar Flow Engine keeps 25% more apps open in the background, loads Gallery thumbnails 50% faster on a cold start, and improves app launch stability by 55%.

The update also adds a layer of AI features. AI Mind Pilot’s Agent Mode can organise and rename photos and files based on content and date, and carry out multi-step tasks such as gathering trip photos into albums or turning them into a vlog. AI Mind Space converts added documents and video links into structured, searchable information, and can combine content with destination maps to produce travel plans.

OPPO paired the AI tools with new privacy measures. Its Private Computing Cloud uses end-to-end encryption and processes data in an environment the company says even it cannot access. The update adds post-quantum security for data transmission, and an on-device AI Call Guard that detects AI face swaps and synthetic voices during calls.

Because of a group restructuring, OnePlus and realme phones will also move to ColorOS 17 rather than new versions of OxygenOS and Realme UI, following their own rollout schedules.

Users can check for the update manually in the software update section of the settings app once the rollout begins.
