- Ryt Bank has switched on Apple Pay support, making it the first digital bank in Malaysia to join Apple’s mobile payment service. Ryt Bank customers can now add the Ryt Card to Apple Wallet and pay with an iPhone or Apple Watch at any contactless terminal.

The rollout covers the bank’s Visa debit card. Setting it up works like any other issuer. Open the Wallet app, tap the plus sign, then scan or key in the Ryt Card details. Apple Watch owners can add the card through the Watch app on their iPhone. Each payment is authorised with Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode, and the card number is replaced by a device-specific token, so the real details are not shared with merchants.
The Ryt Bank Apple Pay launch also works for in-app and online purchases at merchants that display the Apple Pay button. Apple does not charge fees for the service. Ryt Bank’s unlimited 1.2% cashback on overseas in-store spending runs until 31 December 2026, though the campaign terms apply it to payments made with the physical card, and the bank has not stated whether contactless payments through Apple Pay qualify.
Until today, Apple Pay in Malaysia worked only with cards from incumbent lenders. Apple’s list of participating issuers includes Maybank, CIMB, AmBank, RHB, HSBC, Hong Leong Bank and Standard Chartered, along with money transfer service Wise. Hong Leong joined only in December 2025, more than three years after Apple Pay reached the country in 2022. None of Malaysia’s five licensed digital banks appeared on the list until now, which leaves GXBank, Boost Bank, AEON Bank and KAF Digital Bank cardholders waiting.
The launch closes a gap on the iPhone side. Ryt Bank added Google Wallet support on 19 January 2026, making it the second Malaysian digital bank to do so after Boost Bank. Its card is listed on Google’s supported payment methods page for Malaysia as a Visa debit product. Ryt Bank is now the only local digital bank on both Apple Pay and Google Wallet.
The YTL and Sea Limited-backed bank launched in August 2025 and positions itself as an AI-powered lender built around its Ryt AI assistant. Its website now reports 1.5 million users. Deposits are protected by PIDM for up to RM250,000 per depositor.
For overseas use, Ryt Bank charges a 2% foreign transaction fee on the converted amount, with Visa’s exchange rate applied. The fee had been waived since launch but returned on 1 August 2026. The cashback campaign excludes online and card-not-present transactions.
Acceptance continues to widen on the merchant side too. Apple brought Tap to Pay on iPhone to Malaysia in April 2026, letting businesses accept Apple Pay and contactless cards directly on an iPhone without a separate terminal.
