  • I’m trying to choose an ISP in Malaysia and tbh idk which one is actually better anymore. Some people tell me Unifi is the default option because it’s available almost everywhere, but then others keep saying Maxis Fibre is way more stable and doesn’t randomly disconnect at night. Every time I ask someone, I get a totally different answer, so now I’m even more confused.

So I just want a straight comparison from people who actually use them. If you had to pick only one for your home internet, which one would you trust more for daily things like streaming, online classes, gaming, or even basic browsing?

Maxis fiber use Unifi infrastructure. I’m not sure about pricing, i think they are cheaper? I’m using Unifi since 5mbps is a thing. 5 upgraded to 10, then 30, then 300, then 800. That was my parents’ house. My house started from 100 now 300 free upgrade.

Most of the time it’s not the infrastructure that is problematic it’s the router. Unifi usually gives you cheap router. Change it and you get good internet. I got a router brand fibrehome from Unifi that can only handle 50mbps bandwidth while my package is 100mbps. That router goes straight to trash after i bought my own quad core router.

If you have Time Internet, switch to it. The best decision you’ll ever make. You’re welcome.

I’ve been Unifi customer since day 1 when I’m eligible to sign up for an internet under my name. So far so good, I’ve moved from landed property to high rise building so far so good. Even got a free upgrade from my 300mbps to 500mbps! But for my condo area I’ve seen a few users complain about Time having connection issues quite often but they were rectified within an hour.

But recently I just installed Maxis Fibre for my landed house that my family recently renovated, so far no issues yet just that one the first installation the fibre cable wasn’t done properly and I can’t connect to the internet at all and they came over to service within 2 working days. I decided to try out Maxis because of the promotion that they’re offering, which is RM99 for 300mbps which is a super good deal on that.

I have yet to game with the Maxis fibre but I guess there shouldn’t be an issue. You can go either one OP, just that maybe get some feedback from your neighbours of their experience.

Glad you asked. From a work from home staff and hardcore gaming perspective, DO NOT choose Maxis Fibre. I am using Max Wifi plan now. With additional subscription of EasyMesh to achieve the best coverage and speed. Yet it is still shit.

I switched from Unifi to TIME to Maxis.

Stability: Time > Unifi > Maxis

For the first few months during the subscription. Maxis will send me SMS when there is service interruption. Then at some point it just stopped sending. But still there is service interruption. And most of their centers everywhere just for your to sign the plan. Even their promoters and their center not able to reach their customer service at one time when I rushed to maxis center asking them to call their service hotline to fix my wifi.

Guess what? I reached their so called Maxperts, they said it is Infrastructure issue, and asked me to look for Unifi technician. Back from the center to my home, wifi worked again. LOL no inspection, nothing. Blame everything on Unifi. It is very obvious to me even a slight disconnection issue even though it may recover quickly because I am required to work with VPN. So once the wifi disconnected, my VPN will be down.

From the 4 years I used Time for my online class. There were only 2 interruptions that I notice.

Gaming: Unifi > Time > Maxis

Especially beat’em up fighting game relies heavily on ping. I played Street Fighters, KOF and Guilty Gear. Only Unifi scores this. Guilty Gear may have better netcode rollback making it unnoticeable even when fighting opponents with high ping. But KOF and SF is literally unplayable with Maxis. Time is slightly better if you find a queue with lower ping but to me I think both is unbearable. I quitted those games because of this. The ISP contract once signed there is no going back.

I also play some Taiwan or Japan MMORPG. The ping also terrible. I would say if you play some popular game like Valorant, Dota etc then it would not make much different. But if you play those niche online game. Good luck.

From their technician, to customer service, to internet stability. Maxis Fibre is really the worst.

As a consumer pespective, for the love of god please DO NOT use maxis, It is called maxSH*T for a reason. Being forced to use it because my whole family has been using the ISP before I was even born (yes the “big brother” black phone era). Over the years I think it may be cheaper now due to the competition. But oh my god, the line has been so freaking bad in random times, especially the times where you are gaming. And you cant connect it back because for some reason the modem straight blinks LOS signal loss.

If you have the chance to choose time, please go for it, avoid maxis at all cost.

Maxis fibre is like your friend’s sister who you dated for a while and then makes it awkward to hang your friend for 2 years. Unifi on the other hand is the girl who everyone accepts but you feel you can do better and tried something else only to come back to her after 2 years of on and off with your ex.
