Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 Get Dynamic ANC Update in September 2026

Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 are getting a major software update in September 2026, adding Dynamic Active Noise Cancellation, Gemini voice controls, Pixel Watch sleep integration and an upgraded Live Translate feature. The earbuds are also available in a new Olive colour from 12 August 2026. The colour joins the existing Pixel Buds Pro 2 options and is priced at the same US retail price of $229 (estimated RM936). One of the main changes is Dynamic ANC. Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) uses microphones and audio processing to detect surrounding noise and generate an opposing sound signal to reduce what reaches the listener. With Dynamic ANC, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 can compensate when there are small changes to the seal between the earbud and the ear. This matters because the effectiveness of noise cancellation can change if an earbud moves slightly while walking, exercising or adjusting its position. The feature builds on the Pixel Buds Pro 2 noise cancellation system, which uses Google's Tensor A1 processor and Silent Seal 2.0. Google says the existing system can cancel up to twice as much noise as the original Pixel Buds Pro. The company also says Silent Seal 2.0 adapts to surrounding conditions up to three million times per second. Dynamic ANC will only be available on the Pixel Buds Pro 2. Other software features announced at the same time will also be available for the Pixel Buds 2a. Gemini audio control will allow users to change earbud settings through voice commands. For example, Gemini can be asked to increase the bass or change noise cancellation settings without the user opening the Pixel Buds controls on their phone. Google's current Pixel Buds Pro 2 product information confirms that Gemini-based audio setting controls are coming in September 2026. Pixel Watch sleep sync adds another connection between Google's earbuds and smartwatch platform. When a compatible Pixel Watch detects that the wearer has fallen asleep, the Pixel Buds can automatically pause audio playback, disable touch gestures and silence notifications. Google lists the feature as coming in September 2026. This means someone listening to music, a podcast or other audio while falling asleep would not need to manually stop playback or disable earbud controls after falling asleep. The sleep detection itself is handled through the Pixel Watch. Live Translate is also being upgraded. Users will be able to tap their Pixel Buds to start a listening mode and receive translations for more than 70 languages in near real time without repeatedly handling the phone. The system can also work in the other direction. A user can speak in their own language and the connected Pixel phone can play the translated speech to the other person. Google's Pixel Buds Pro 2 product page describes Live Translate as allowing translations to be heard through the earbuds while translated speech for the other person is played through the phone speaker. The new system does not mean the entire translation process happens independently inside the earbuds. The Pixel Buds act as part of a system involving the earbuds, the connected Pixel phone and Google's translation software. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 hardware itself remains based on the model introduced in 2024. It uses Google's Tensor A1 chip, 11mm speaker drivers and a twist-to-adjust stabiliser designed to improve the fit inside the ear. Google says the Pixel Buds Pro 2 are 27% smaller and 24% lighter than the previous Pixel Buds Pro. The earbuds support Active Noise Cancellation with Silent Seal 2.0, Adaptive Audio, Transparency mode and spatial audio with head tracking. Battery life is rated at up to 30 hours of total listening time with the charging case when ANC is enabled. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 case also supports wireless charging. The earbuds use Bluetooth and can pair with Android phones, iPhones, tablets and computers. However, Google says access to the complete feature set requires a Google Account, an appropriate Android companion phone and an internet connection. Some of the newer ecosystem features also depend on compatible Google hardware or services. The September 2026 update therefore changes how the Pixel Buds Pro 2 work without requiring owners to buy a new pair. Existing Pixel Buds Pro 2 colour variants and the new Olive version are expected to receive the same software features, although Dynamic ANC remains exclusive to the Pro model.
