  • Malaysia already has 5G home broadband, but the high-speed mmWave part using 26GHz and 28GHz is not available for normal households yet.

Early plans included 28GHz for 5G. In 2022, MCMC said 1600MHz in mmWave was assigned to DNB. There was a 28Gbps trial in 2023, but in April 2026 there is still no mass-market 28GHz home service for ordinary people.

Current 5G home broadband uses indoor routers and speeds have dropped — median download fell from 506.96Mbps in Q2 2023 to 387.39Mbps in Q2 2024.

mmWave could give more stable gigabit speeds with outdoor antennas, but it is not happening yet.

    What do you think?

    • Is mmWave 28GHz home broadband needed, or is current 5G enough?
    • Should MCMC explain clearly what happened to the 28GHz plan?
    • Do you want a fixed wireless service with outdoor antenna for better speeds?
